Tigers looking forward to another title

first_imgRugby League BY BENJAMIN KOITAKA Last year’s Digicel Cup champions Lae Snax Tigers are aiming to defend their title for the second time when the semi-professional competition resumes later this year. Tigers patron Ian Chow, who is also Lae Biscuit Company Ltd chairman, said the 2019 premiers are ready to give their best for a back-to-back premiership despite being hard-hit by the global pandemic. “We are not the only club in this shoe but we are just as same as everyone and everyone is in the same situation,” Chow said. “But our mission for this year is to retain the premiership. “We, at Tigers, are ready to see some action on the field and our aim is to win back-to-back title and enjoy a competitive season.” He said despite his players’ release in response to the government restrictions they are always a team and could recover from time loss with their new strategies and plans. “Our Tigers players on leave for the past three or four weeks and will return probably in the next two weeks so they will resume their training early. “They have their own training schedules and it’s their effort to make it,” he said. Chow said he was expecting a tough challenge as many international and SP PNG Hunters players would be joining other local franchise clubs. “We want a strong domestic competitions and teams and I’m expecting our 2020 season would be as tougher as ever. That is because our international and Hunters players will be joining the Digicel Cup teams as the Queensland Cup is being suspended. “This is also good for us to compete against strong teams and making an impact in the domestic competition.” Chow said his squad will also be boosted by the return of the Hunters players. “I’m looking forward to a possible start of the games and it would be a much stronger competition,” he said. “Everyone is looking forward to see some actions and we at Tigers we are ready and committed to retain our title.”last_img read more
